My Dad is right!! No, my Dad knows more !!

You’re getting married! It’s a joyous occasion right? Well it sure is supposed to be. And surely the ceremony will be fabulous and the wedding will be amazing. But what about everything leading up to that point in time? It can be nightmarish, depending on your parents and future in-laws. What do I mean by this? Many times parents want things to be their way, especially if they are helping foot part of the bill or even the entire bill. And it is a large bill, so they may want a large say in what is going on.

The problem quickly becomes that parents and in-laws rarely agree on anything, especially when it comes to wedding planning. Each side has their own views and visions of how the wedding should look. You want to pick out some wedding favors or flowers? Ha! That could easily become a big ordeal. And the crazy thing is these are you and your husband’s keepsakes and memories from the biggest day of your lives.

You have a whole life to plan and share ahead of you, you and your future hubby. You’ll be making bigger and much more important decisions together, without much input from others. So why can’t you make a decision (on your own) like choosing your own table settings for your very own wedding?

Family politics become rampant, things become chaotic, and arguments break out. Decisions can’t be made because of all the varying opinions from everyone. You are falling behind schedule, the wedding is quickly approaching, and you are ready to pull your hair out. So what do you do?

Take control. Consider hiring a wedding planner, at least to help make the bigger decisions and to coordinate everything. The last thing you need before your wedding day is stress and a pointless argument between you and your groom; a pointless argument that arises from all the chaos that is happening around you both.

You may be surprised to hear, but this happens more often than people would believe or expect. If you really think about it, it is all such complete craziness. Everyone arguing over what colors or theme the wedding should have. What wedding favors and table settings to choose. Families need to focus on the important things. Like the fact that you are starting a new life with the person you love. You are combining everything and becoming one. This is a much bigger deal than the wedding details, this is the purpose of the wedding itself!

So again, take control, get a wedding planner, and get your family back to sanity. Remind them what the important thing is. Everyone should be helping you start your new life, not hindering you from a smooth beginning. So get everyone on board and the right track. You are old enough to get married so you are probably old enough to make these decisions on your own. Everyone needs to remember that the wedding is about you and should reflect your personalities, styles, and tastes!
